The City begins it's second season as Whitney prepares to show her new line for NY Fashion Week 2010. As Whitney gears up for her fashion debut, Oliva and Erin decide to mend fences.

When we last saw Whitney Port and her band of ambitious vixens, they were taking over The City. Kelly Cutrone, owner of Peoples Revolution offered Port the chance to put on a runway show during New York Fashion Week at Bryant Park; and Erin Kaplan and Olivia Palermo, well, basically, they hate each other. Let the drama begin…

The second season of MTV’s The City kicks off with Whitney stressing in preparation for her rapidly approaching runway show. Whitney impresses upon Roxy the magnitude of her undertaking and with NY Fashion Week just around the corner, reveals that she only has completed seventeen of the twenty-four looks she is expected to produce. In addition, she still needs to cast the models for the runway show, select hairstyles for the models, choose the make-up, and decide on music.

While Whitney is essentially in the midst of fashion purgatory, Olivia and Erin are confronted with the fallout from what will forever be known as The Today Show Incident. Joe Zee, creative director of ELLE magazine sits down with Olivia first and lets her know in no uncertain terms that he is not happy. Telling her, “Erin has been here longer,” and, “…I need you to make amends.” Mr. Zee then reports the beef to ELLE Editor and Chief Robbie Meyers who, calls Erin into her office to get a better sense of the situation. In the end Erin Kaplan , PR Director and consummate professional, agrees to mend fences, “…if it’s great for the magazine.” In the end the rivals meet for coffee and decide to move forward.

Back in fashion limbo, Whitney manages to pull together the final details and puts an impressive runway show. The show was such a success that even Kelly Cutrone, known and also adored for her rough and often caustic demeanor, offered Port several heartfelt words of praise and adoration. In a poignant moment Cutrone says, “I want you to look around and see what you’ve manifested in such a short period of time.”

Ever wondered how you can afford that stylish outfit you spotted on the runway at Fashion Week? Ever catch yourself staring at outfits at a high-end store but you slowly walk away once you glance at the price tags? Well, now you don’t have to worry- you can visit Runway Rundown and check out the latest and hottest fashion trends without burning your wallet. This is a great resource for shoppers on a budget, especially during this rough economy.

Runway Rundown is filled with rich content and puts up a blog post once a day with two pictures side by side- one has the expensive designer look and one has the affordable look. It’s not an exact duplicate of the real deal but it looks very similar and still looks good. When you are ready to purchase the outfit you want, there is a link to the retail store that carries it. You can browse by designer, season, price, color or clothing type.

Happy shopping!

Diane von Furstenberg shows her appreciation for diverse models on the runway. She wants to continue showing the true definition of beauty and style to the world.

Diane von Furstenberg, designer and President of Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), is known for casting models of different ethnicities on her runways at Fashion Week. However, she had a wider range of diversity at NY Fashion Week Fall 2010. 16 of her 43 looks were worn by models of color and she will make sure to promote more diverse models in the future. According to NYMag.com’s The Cut, Furstenberg said at a launch party of her new CD Proud to Be Woman, “I insist. It’s my rule, and I always tell my casting agents. That’s it! Otherwise, I don’t hire them. I send everybody an e-mail right before Fashion Week to remind them to do it.” It sounds like she means serious business.

Bravo to Furstenberg for speaking up about a change that many people have been wanting to see in the fashion industry for years. If we want to attract a wider audience at fashion shows every year, then we need to be more diverse on the runways. Hopefully, more designers will welcome this need for diversity, and embrace her example.

Betsy Johnson rocked NY Fashion Week just like she does every year! Here is a look at her star studded runway show.

Betsy Johnson rocked NY Fashion Week 2010 with a brightly colored, western extravaganza! Her collection featured gun belt clad cowgirls adorned with bandannas, hats and nearly neon suede boots.

Kelly Osborne stole the show appearing first as a cowgirl, and, later, in a white Charlie Chaplin style dress complete with a black bowler hat, tie, mustache, cane and her black Pomeranian.

Also spotted in the crowd were New York stylist Patricia Fields, and, former Sabrina the Teenage Witch star Melissa Joan Heart.

The show ended with a model, donning bright red wax lips, walking the runway followed by a man holding a sign that read, “Long Live McQueen”. Betsy Johnson took her bow in a “chain gang” inspired pair of long johns with a sparkling sequined heart placed squarely on her rear end.

Yet again, Betsy Johnson proved to her NY Fashion Week audience why she is the reigning queen of the runway.

At the 2010 Fashion Week in Paris, Jean Paul Gaultier proved once again why he is a fashion icon. His Avitar inspired, Mexican style couture collection wowed Paris runway watchers.

Jean Paul Gaultier wowed guests of his runway show at Fashion Week in Paris. Reportedly, the show was visually astounding. The models almost looked like tropical birds as they made their way down the runway. The brightly colored garments and their intricately designed accessories were reminiscent of an Amazonian rainforest. Some wore cowboy boots, others wore beaded sombreros or had palm leaves woven into their hair.

According to Gaultier, his inspiration was a recent piece of popular culture. James Cameron’s latest film, Avitar, not only grossed $2 billion dollars, but it also was the spark that fueled what was, arguably, the most imaginative production of the entire season. Hopefully, his show was an exciting preview of what NY Fashion Week has to offer.

The skirt suit – a relic of generations past, or a must-have professional look for Fall 2009? For Alber Elbaz, the skirt suit isn’t some remnant of a bygone era, but a keystone in his Fall 2009 collection created for Lanvin. In a variety of dark shades, the 40s era skirt-suit is both glamorous and professional, and should see some play in the coming season.

“A fashion is merely a form of ugliness so unbearable that we are compelled to alter it every six months.”

-Oscar Wilde, Quote on Fashion

Fashion Week is a prime opportunity for experimentation and artistic expression – and some designers understand that fact all too well. Look back at Fashion Week festivities from years past and you’ll find some of the strangest, most puzzling fashion ever devised. We’ve tried to identify the seven most bizarre fashion trends to ever grace the runway. Enjoy.

——————-

Bundles of Fabric

Christian Lacroix Spring/Summer 2008 Haute Couture Collection

In what seems like a leftover costume from Zoolander, Christian Lacroix only forgot the kitchen sink. This heaping bundle of fabric was one of many such garments unveiled at Paris Fashion Week in 2008.

——————-

Gigantic Hats

Valentino Spring/Summer 2008 Haute Couture Collection

Again, it what seems like a leftover prop from Spaceballs…Seriously, what gives with the gigantic hats on the runways these days – they’re ridiculous.

——————-

Face Masks

Viktor Rolf Fall 2006 RTW Collection

As much as we despise oversized headwear, there’s something even creepier about a model wearing a mask. In the above example, Viktor Rolf outfitted all of his Fall 2006 models in fishnet masks.

——————-

Topless Models

Vivienne Westwood Fall 2009 RTW Collection

If this is the future of sheer fashion, count us out. We’re not sure what Vivienne Westwood was trying to accomplish with her Fall 2009 RTW collection. The use of a topless model is too ridiculous for the mainstream, yet too bland to be controversial (at least in the fashion industry).

——————-

Apocalyptic Looks

John Galliano 2007 Fashion Show

The world of fashion has ended. Or so John Galliano would lead us to believe with this insane collection of apocalyptic pieces unveiled in 2007.

——————-

Flasher Dresses

Flasher Dress by Agatha Ruiz de la Prada

As quirky and weird as this Agatha Ruiz de la Prada dress is – we kind of like it. Well, at least in a Halloween kind of way.

——————-

Alien Looks

2010 Hong Kong Spring Fashion Week

Wow. Hong Kong’s Spring 2010 Fashion Week really merits its own article – and on that note, we think you’ll enjoy more photos from the event.
