2009 London Fashion Week – Fashion is Going Green

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

2009 London Fashion Week saw the launch of the Sustainable Clothing Action Plan, an initiative taken by Britain’s DEFRA (Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs).

From textile manufacturers to retailers to fashion designers, the plan involves more than 300 organizations, dealing with the negatives of “throw away” fashion that is increasing carbon emissions, water usage and waste. The aim is to increase recycling of textiles and to create consumer awareness of eco-fashion.

According to Lord Philip Hunt, DEFRA overseer and Minister of Sustainable Development & Energy, the plan is the beginning of a great movement in the fashion industry.

Following the annoucement, Noir launched its collection of organic clothing, Esthetica and the premium label Bllack Noir, a reasonably priced rock-n-roll inspired collection.

The organic range includes black pants with embellished belts, jackets, tight skirts and t-shirts. Atypically, Noir has used some cool colors this season, mostly navy blue and icy-grey, seen in casual shirts, woolens and silk tops worn with peep-toe heels and leather accessories.

Take a look.
