Mario Prada created the Prada label in 1913, selling leather goods and luggage through two Milan storefronts. In the years following, Prada begins selling waterproof handbags while expanding the market for his goods.
In 1978, Mario Prada’s granddaughter, Miuccia Prada, inherits the Prada label – continuing to design waterproof handbags. By the 1980s, Prada’s handbags become an international sensation, providing a launch pad into the world of haute couture.
In 1989, Prada successfully debuts its first ready-to-wear collection, quickly becoming a fashion-industry leader. Today, Prada is distributed through a global network of boutiques, continuing to innovate in the use of fabric and design.
