Ralph Lauren Biography – A History of RL

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Ralph Lauren (born Ralph Lifshitz) makes a name for himself in menswear, releasing a collection of wide ties under the Polo label in the late 1960s. Lauren enters the mainstream after he is contracted to outfit the cast of 1972’s The Great Gatsby.

Soon after, Lauren enters the world of women’s fashion, achieving notoriety by outfitting Diane Keaton in an androgynous blend of basics in the 1977 film, Annie Hall.

Today, Ralph Lauren continues to grow his label through expertly-assembled collections of style-pieces, created around English/American themes.
