Rusnak’s Night of Luxury – Saturday, Oct 17, 2009

Rusnak's Night of Luxury

A night of elegance and Hollywood Glamour! Kevan Hall’s Spring 2010 show takes us back to the classic 1960’s with polished and graceful gowns and day dresses. The show, which took place in the Hollywood Hills, was nothing but splendid! Beginning with the “runway” which consisted of a set of grand steps, each model looked stunning and statuesque. Hall’s vintage-inspired collection, including beehive bouffants, was rich, vibrant, and beautiful!

The 10 Greatest Quotes about Fashion, Trends, and Style

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

To outsiders of the fashion industry, fashionistas mostly have a bum rep. Some of the scorn is no-doubt deserved (some of Coco Chanel’s quotes are indistinguishable from Paris Hilton’s) – but the fashion industry is filled with many talented and bright individuals. We’ve decided to compile a list of the best quotes on fashion, trends, and personal style – spoken by both fashion industry insiders and outsiders.

———————–

10. “When in doubt, wear red.”

– Bill Blass

———————–

9. “A woman’s dress should be like a barbed- wire fence: serving its purpose without obstructing the view.”

– Sophia Loren

———————–

8. “Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society.”

– Mark Twain

———————–

7. “The expression a woman wears on her face is more important than the clothes she wears on her back.”

– Dale Carnegie

———————–

6. “Art produces ugly things which frequently become beautiful with time. Fashion, on the other hand, produces beautiful things which always become ugly with time.”

– Jean Cocteau

———————–

5. “A fashion is merely a form of ugliness so unbearable that we are compelled to alter it every six months.”

– Oscar Wilde

———————–

4. “Style is knowing who you are, what you want to say and not giving a damn.”

– Gore Vidal

———————–

3. “As a fashion designer, I was always aware that I was not an artist, because I was creating something that was made to be sold, marketed, used, and ultimately discarded.”

– Tom Ford

———————–

2. “It’s hard to go with a fashion trend. As soon as it’s out, everyone picks it up. It’s important to stay true to yourself. Have fun with fashion instead of letting it dictate.”

– Estella Warren

———————–

1. “Sometimes the eye gets so accustomed that if you don’t have a change, you’re bored. It’s the same with fashion, you know. And that, I suppose, is what style is about.”

– Bill Blass

Fall 2009 Fashion Trend: Day Glo Lights Up the Runway

A Day Glo dress seen at Versace's Fall 2009 show

When it comes to Fall 2009 fashion, we like what we see. Serving as a complement to the bright metallic looks popularized by Balmain, Versace has prepared an equally loud collection of Day Glo brights. While neon fashion is certainly nothing new, it’s inspiring to see the look in times of recession. In fact, we’re confident that bright, inspiring fashion may lead us out of these tough times (in stark contrast to the drab looks of the late 70s and early 80s, that only seemed to compound our financial problems).

Balmain Fall 2009 - Metallic Dress

Over the last two years, metallic outerwear has been ramping up in popularity – now the trend has moved towards metallic fashion pieces and accessories. See above is sleek and shiny minidress from the Balmain Fall 2009 collection. Other designers perpetuating the look are Roberto Cavalli and Marc Jacobs.

The Vogue City Hosts Wear Today, Gone Tomorrow Fashion Show

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Yesterday – The Vogue City, New York’s premiere website for fashion bargains hosted the Wear Today Gone Tomorrow fashion show in a sleek Chelsea loft. We were lucky enough to be in attendance and the concept of the show was very interesting.

Wear Today Gone Tomorrow specializes in high-end fashion rentals for people like you and I. For those that can’t afford a closet full on the hottest runway fashion (and as the WTGT website suggests, “who wants to be seen in the same dress twice anyway!”) – customers can rent dresses at 1/10 of the sticker price.

For example, a Carolina Herrera strapless silk dress that retails for $2990 can be had for an evening for $299. If you still have sticker shock, fear not, for there were plenty of affordable dresses as well (such as a Chelsea Flower mini dress that can be rented for a mere $24).

The show was quite lovely, and the dresses featured were well accessorized with footwear ranging from Christian Louboutin pumps to Steve Madden wedges.

Fall Fashion Trends – Floral Prints and Patterns

Floral prints and patterns are among the most predominant fall fashion trends that we’ve spotted on the runway. Erdem (seen above) employed richly colored florals into a collection on evening wear. Expect to see similar designs appearing on party dresses, blouses, and other evening wear this fall.

First Style – Michelle Obama in Isabel Toledo

Friday, May 8th, 2009

Isabel Toledo designer dresses are fast becoming a favorite of America’s First Lady. Michelle Obama has worn Isabel Toledo several times since the Presidential Inauguration. She chose a lemongrass wool-laced dress with matching overcoat for her inaugural ensemble.

On her first official visit to Buckingham Palace, Michelle Obama was graceful in a black and white Toledo dress. She paired a full length black skirt with a sleeveless white satin top and black overcoat to keep it classic and elegant.
