Denim on Denim for Spring 2010 – No Thanks

If denim on denim doesn't look good on a model, how will it look on you...

If denim on denim doesn't look good on a model, how will it look on you...

Every season, a respected designer unveils a denim-on-denim look – an inevitable (and unfortunate) fact in fashion. This year, Chloe has the honor.

We’ve seen denim on denim touted as a trend for Spring 2010 (and every other year for that matter) – but as always, we’re just not buying into this look. Best to leave the “Canadian Tuxedo” to those folks up north – and by “up north”, we mean in Siberian where it’s too cold to notice what someone is wearing.

Spring 2010 Fashion Trend – The Draped Dress

Billowy dresses signal a shift to comfort-wear

Billowy dresses signal a shift to comfort-wear

One of the more exciting trends in Spring 2010 fashion (at least in our opinion), is the resurgence of the draped dress. Antithesis of the minidress, draped dresses and gowns project an aura of sophistication, luxury, and most importantly, comfort.

Fashion is oftentimes associated with uncomfortable clothing – we love any look that challenges the convention. Draped dresses are calm, cool, and breezy – and will find themselves in our closet this Spring.

Spring 2010 Fashion Trend – The Minidress

The Minidress, as modeled by the red carpet crowd

The Minidress, as modeled by the red carpet crowd

This spring, we’re expecting the minidress to become a more prominent street look. The short/tight dress has been a favorite of designer RTW collections since Fall 2008, and subsequently, these designer dresses have appeared on the red carpet – but the general public hasn’t adopted the look. Expect that to change. As the country pulls out of the Great Recession (or as long as it continues to feel that way), party dresses will grow in popularity (and will no longer be a sin of conspicuous consumption).

Spring 2010 Fashion Trend – Lingerie Fashion

Lingerie-inspired fashion is one of the hottest trends to hit the Spring 2010 runways. The looks, ranging from totally sheer tops to the solid white bra-top (see above), are daring…you’ll need some guts to pull them off. Our favorite bra-top look is the Yves Saint Laurent ensemble on the left. We can totally see this in a resort collection, and it seems doable on a vacation (or tropical locale).

Balmain Spring 2010 Minidress – Who Wore it Better?

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Sometimes we wonder where runway fashion ends up. There just aren’t many people who can pull off the looks that we’ve grown so accustomed to seeing during Fashion Week – even in New York City.

In fact, one of the few places we can consistently look towards to see designer fashion in action is the red carpet. This week, we New Yorkers were treated to a display of designer fashion at a Broadway red carpet event. Sienna Miller, now starring in After Miss Julie, arrived in a sleek, asymmetrical minidress from the Balmain Spring 2010 collection – a dress that we recognized immediately from the runway.

For your enjoyment, we have photos of Sienna Miller and Balmain’s runway model (below). Who do you think wore it better?

Fashion Week Paris Spring 2010

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

Belgian native designer Dries van Noten brought culture and ethnicity to the Paris Fashion Week runway.  With an array of rich, vibrant, and sleek flowing fabrics, it was very clear that Mr. Van Noten went beyond the conventional to turn this collection into a reality.  He revealed that one of the hand-woven fabrics he selected (Ikat) underwent a two day journey by donkey in order to make it to his Antwerp studio.  Although ethnic inspired fashion has been done many times before, it was Mr. Van Noten’s unique mixture of his pieces that lead to his exito! Bravo!

Louise Golden Spring 2010 RTW – A Look at the Collection

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Go frock yourself! The Louise Golden Spring 2010 ready-to-wear collection is interesting to say the least. The collection, mostly consisting of frock-like minidresses and baggy shorts, comes in a variety of pastel colors.

Lace stockings appear in parts of the collection, adding a softer touch to some of the bolder outfits. However, any softness is immediately combated by the inclusion of cone-shaped cups over the breasts, eerily reminiscent of Austin Power’s fembots.

Vivienne Westwood Red Label – Spring 2010 RTW

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Among the more interesting RTW collections for Spring 2010 is Vivienne Westwood’s Red Label. The collection is bright, heavily accessorized, baggy and comfortable (and sometimes, downright weird).

Below are some of our favorite outfits (as well as some bizarre fashion):
