Why is it that we always seem to buy jewelry that we hardly ever wear? It’s a costly proposition to say the least. Hopefully, we could all afford to live with these mistakes, but why should we have to?

Remember the old saying “never shop hungry”? It couldn’t be truer in this case. The first step in making a jewelry buying decision it to figure out why you want the jewelry in the first place. Is it for work? Casual wear? Special occasions? Are you looking for something to specifically attract attention or just to complement your look?

The big, expensive pieces that catch eyes in a showcase are hardly practical for everyday wear. You might find a necklace that you adore, but if you try and wear it with jeans, it will fail. Match that same necklace to a gown and you’ll stop a clock – it’s all about context.

When choosing any jewelry item you should also consider a few things like the shape of your face, neckline, and complexion. These considerations can make or break even the finest jewelry.. For example, if you have a fair complexion, opt for gold jewelry. But if your complexion is dark, platinum will almost certainly suit you better.

Test the waters before jumping into a big purchase by trying costume jewelry. It’s a good way to see what works for you, plus, you have the timely benefit of costume being in right now.

Remember, the girl with diamonds in her eyes in usually the girl with rocks in her head.
