Valentino Garavani
Valentino Garavani, the Italian fashion maestro, turned 77 this year – and what could be a more apt tribute to his immense creativity and innovativeness than Matt Tyrnauer’s timely documentary, Valentino: The Last Emperor?
Since the 1960s, the veteran couturier has created exclusive garments for the world’s most beautiful and wealthy women – Tyrnauer’s documentary vividly portrays the designer’s personal life. Starting from Valentino’s adolescence, when he was fascinated about Hollywood retro movies, and culminating with his grand farewell party in July 2007 after which he officially stepped down from the fashion arena, the film gives us glimpses into Valentino’s majestic lifestyle.
The Los Angeles premier of the film was a grand affair, attended by luminaries such as Anne Hathaway, Gwyneth Paltrow and Zac Posen.
